One of our favorite family traditions is going all-out for Halloween with themed costumes. Instead of everyone picking something random, we choose a group idea and run with it. From superheroes to classic movies, farm animals to outer space, we’ve had so much fun coming up with costumes that work for everyone. Here’s a look back at some of our favorite Halloween costumes through the years!

šŸ¦’šŸ¦šŸ˜ Safari Animals

We had a roaring good time as a family of safari animals! With a giraffe, elephant, zebra, and a sweet little lion cub, we were ready to hit the trick-or-treat trail straight out of the jungle. This theme was comfy, cozy, and perfect for all ages.

šŸ¦‡šŸƒ Gotham City Heroes & Villains

One year we went full-on superhero mode with Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and of course, the Joker. These costumes brought out everyone’s inner comic book fan, and they were a big hit with neighbors while trick-or-treating.

šŸ’€šŸŒø Dia de los Muertos

For a colorful twist, we dressed up in Day of the Dead–inspired costumes with bright skeletons and flower crowns. The face paint made this one extra fun and definitely memorable!

šŸ‘»šŸš« Ghostbusters

Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters! This theme was one of our all-time favorites. We had Ghostbusters in uniform, Slimer, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, and even a DIY ghost trap. It was a creative theme that looked amazing in group photos.

āš”šŸŽ® PokĆ©mon Party

This theme was a total hit with the kids — and honestly with us, too! We had Ash Ketchum, Pikachu, Gengar, and Squirtle, and the kids carried PokĆ© Balls for trick-or-treating. Everyone we passed kept pointing out their favorite character, and it felt like we were walking straight out of a cartoon.

šŸ‘½šŸš€ Out of This World

Aliens, astronauts, and glowing space queens—we took Halloween to another galaxy with this intergalactic theme. A mix of store-bought costumes and DIY touches made it shine (literally, with LED lights on the aliens).

šŸ„ā Super Mario Family

We couldn’t resist bringing a little Nintendo magic to Halloween. With Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and even a Power Star, we were ready to save the Mushroom Kingdom. This theme was colorful, instantly recognizable, and fun for kids and adults alike.

āœŒļøšŸŒ¼ Hippie Vibes

Sometimes it’s fun to keep it simple. With fringe vests, peace signs, tie-dye, and flower crowns, we rocked a groovy 70s hippie vibe. This one was laid-back, easy to put together, and still got lots of compliments.

🐷🐓🐮 Down on the Farm

Throwback to when we dressed as a barnyard family: a farmer, pig, horse, and the cutest little cow you’ve ever seen. We even decked out the stroller to look like a red barn—talk about commitment!

šŸŽ¶ Annie & Friends

Sometimes the best costume ideas come straight from a classic musical! We had our very own Annie in her signature red dress, Sandy the pup by her side, and Daddy Warbucks looking sharp. This theme was simple but made a big impact — everyone knew exactly who we were!

šŸšŸŽƒ Mickey & Friends

Halloween wouldn’t be complete without a little Disney magic! One year, our crew turned into Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Daisy Duck. The kids loved it because everyone instantly recognized who we were, and it was such a colorful, happy theme. Our littlest one made the cutest Mickey Mouse ever, and we couldn’t stop taking pictures.

Wrapping It Up

Halloween has always been more than just candy for us—it’s about making memories, getting creative, and sharing a laugh together. Every year brings a new idea, and looking back at these costumes reminds us of how much fun it is to go all-in as a family.

Do you and your family do group costumes, or does everyone pick their own thing? Drop your favorite costume idea in the comments—we’re always looking for inspiration for next year! šŸŽƒ
