There’s nothing sweeter than a family costume theme that makes everyone smile! This year, our crew brought the fair to life with our Carnival Treats Family Costumes — popcorn, cotton candy, a snow cone, and a hot dog. It was colorful, funny, and full of personality — the perfect mix of DIY creativity and fairground fun.
We wore them to our campground’s Halloween weekend, and they were a total hit! Everywhere we went, people pointed, laughed, and stopped for photos. The best part? Each costume was budget-friendly, creative, and easy to pull together — proof that DIY doesn’t have to be complicated to stand out.
🍿 Popcorn Boxes & Vendor🧍♂️

The popcorn boxes were made using foam trifold boards for structure, then covered with red tape to create the classic stripes. Yellow bulletin board trim was added along the top for a fun border, and printed popcorn clipart finished it off with that extra pop of detail.
The popcorn vendor wore a striped apron, hat, and carried a popcorn tray that made it look straight off the midway. The costume was an Amazon find and pulled the whole theme together.
🩷 Cotton Candy 💙

For the cotton candy costumes, batting was glued onto plain t-shirts and lightly spray-painted pink and blue for that fluffy, sugary look. The headpieces were made using small paper cones bobby-pinned into the hair, with a little extra batting added around them for extra fluff.
The result was sweet, soft, and perfectly silly — exactly what cotton candy should be!
🍧 Snow Cone & Hot Dog 🌭

The snow cone costume started with foam board pieces — two large triangles and three long rectangular strips. The rectangular pieces were taped together into an oval shape to form the top of the cone, then attached to the triangle sides to create a rounded, three-dimensional look. The base was covered in white felt and outlined neatly with tape for clean edges.
The front was decorated with colorful felt circles, jewels for a little bling, and bulletin board letters for a bright, finished look. For the hat, colorful shower loofahs were hot-glued onto a turban, though a rainbow clown wig works just as well.
The finished costume turned out bright, cheerful, and instantly recognizable as one of the most iconic carnival treats!
The hot dog costume was store-bought, which made it quick, easy, and the perfect way to round out the DIY snack crew. It added a classic fair food touch and a good laugh to the group’s lineup.
🎟️ The Carnival Crew

All together, this carnival snack crew looked like a walking concession stand — full of color, charm, and laughter. It’s the kind of costume theme that turns heads and spreads smiles everywhere you go.
If you’re looking for a family costume idea that’s fun, budget-friendly, and easy to recognize, this Carnival Treats theme is one everyone will remember.
